Ook hier in de zuipschuitkajuit van MS De Kantelaar hangt er naast het \u2018richting-de-bar-\u2018 een donker \u2018richting-de-meetsfeertje\u2019. Niet die tourmeet specifiek, ik bedoel: hier zijn andere dingen niet ver meer. Tour en D\u00e9tour gaan van begin tot eind synchroon op, maar niet samen. Ze gaan in de drijvende kroeg, zij het in zekere wederzijdse afhankelijkheid, hun eigen gang. De stemming is bedrukt. <br> \u00a0<br> Ranke Nelis kijkt als een Stan Laurel, de slapstick-Ranke, strak weemoedig voor zich uit. Zelfs als hij bier tapt, zoals nu twee Roetemeijers Beiers Bier voor kroegkrakers, blijft hij zo staren. Ze staan weer perfect te schuimen, daar niet van, niet te veel, niet te weinig, maar hij heeft er geen professioneel ge\u00efnteresseerd oog voor. Is het een eiland in de verte? Zoiets? Hij zwijgt. Zo kennen we de Ranke niet.<br> \u00a0<br> Altonice Rieding en Arent Hendriksz B. \u2018Pannekoek\u2019 Lix hebben inmiddels hun RBB. De eerste hangt teruggetrokken \u2018reading\u2019 aan een tafeltje in de hoek waar Des Kantelaars portable buikige zwartwit tv-toestel staat. Pannekoek, ballpoint nu net tussen de lippen, zit aan de honkytonkpiano afwisselend te schrijven en te pingelen, misschien aan een nieuw weemoedig lied bezig. <br> \u00a0<br> En de Chileen voor Immanie Kompaan? De Ranke let opnieuw niet op zijn schenktechniek. Maar het gaat uit de kunst. Stijlvoller heeft de Chileen nog niet op Immer gewacht. <br> \u00a0<br> Dit verslag valt me zwaar. Waar hebben we het over? Ik sjok zonder mankeren verder typend naar de bar (met de juiste concentratie heb je die gelijktijdigheid van handelen op zeker moment aardig onder de knie), regel zelf een Leffe D, terwijl ik de nog steeds somber starende barman in een poging hem op te beuren een amicaal schouderklopje geef. Mezelf eigenlijk. Nelis Mince c\u2019est moi. <br> \u00a0<br> We zijn allemaal \u00e9\u00e9n. Dat alles gelijk getypt dus, anders heb ik bijvoorbeeld geen Leffe, dezelfde waar ik nu een hijs van neem. Intussen sta ik ook met een kopstootje op het podium, appeltje eitje, en oefen als Wilfred Alloy binnensmonds murmelend alvast mogelijke roeptumaarregels. Altonice zingt tussen Roetemeijerslokken door een \u2018Frans waasje\u2019, een liedje van Fran\u00e7oise (Laurel en Hardy vandaag beiden present). Pannekoek, het lied in wording terzijde geschoven zijnde, tingeltangelt er basisakkoorden bij. De tranen staan hem in de ogen. Hij vindt de energie niet om iets swingend y\u00e9-y\u00e9-achtigs in zijn spel te leggen. Quand je me tourne vers mes souvenirs, je revois la maison o\u00f9 j\u2019ai grandi, zingt Altoos. Och ja, waar ze het gedicht op had geschreven, dat ze laatst voordroeg. Zoiets roep ik haar toe, de speciale stilte in de zuipkajuit wreed doorbrekend. Ik zie haar het hoofd schudden. Dat het inhoudelijk geen directe invloed was, meer qua sfeer. De melancholie druipt ervan af. Er zingt al een afscheid in door. <br> \u00a0<br> Immer is ook niet de vrolijkste. Ze draait met de wijsvinger over de bovenrand van het wijnglas, dat ze bij de voet surplace aan het tafelblad houdt. Kanteldraait dan het glas zelf. Het voetje raakt als dat van een balletdanser die vloer op vier poten nog net: \u201cCircusact met soepel tollende Chileen\u2019. Intussen neuriet ze iets van het 7<sup>e<\/sup> Regiment Infanterie voor zich uit. Misschien denkt ze aan voorbije tijden in caf\u00e9 Schinkelhaven, de Tolhuistuin en het Paleis voor Volksvlijt, waarover Altonice toen een sonnet voor haar dichtte.<br> \u00a0<br> <strong><em>Kopermaannacht <\/em><\/strong><em>\u2013 \u2019t Zevende Regiment Infanterie \/ Blies op electra, tot dan ongekend. \/ Volksvlijts concertzaal \u2018cet apr\u00e8s-midi\u2019 \/ Was in geen tijd zulk een bruischende tent. \/\/ Ook in de tuinen, bij gaslicht verwend, \/ Zwierde \u2019t op iedere hoornsymphonie. \/ Zelfs kellner Laurensz, een nuchtere vent, \/ Viel voor den charmdans en \u2018t vat eau-de-vie. \/\/ Zingend hielp Zaagmans, capeldirigent, \/ \u2019t Koper den nacht in. Een klimmetje van niks, waar hebben we het over? We hebben het er niet over. We stellen het uit. Maar voelen nu al de pijn die doorgaans twee dagen na emotionele inspanning op z\u2019n ergst is. En niet alleen in de kajuitkuiten. Nee\u2026 Daar vooral niet, zou ik zeggen. Klimmetje? Ha! Noem het maar een klimmetje. Een tranenmettuitenbijter is het. We berusten.<br> \u00a0<br> Fran\u00e7oise is allang af. Zij is van de kleine pareltjes. Geen woord te veel. Geen woord te moeilijk. Mevrouw Van Zetten uit Tiel begrij\u2026. Af! Nee, helemaal raak. Nelis, zing jij ook nog wat? De Ranke schudt nog altijd zwijgend het hoofd, er wordt wat afgeschud vanavond, een tissue in de hand. Hij legt een verzamelplaat met Fran\u00e7oises grootste hits op Genoemde Draaitafel.<br> \u00a0<br> Verdroten naar de kwoten. Herbert kan ik er vandaag gewoon niet bij hebben. Zo kort mogelijk dan. Kroot? Een greep uit de mallebabbelgrabbelton. \u2018Nu lijkt het erop alsof ie een deuk nee een kras heeft opgelopen op z\u2019n carosserie.\u2019 Erg. Nog een keer grabbelen. \u2018Als je daar fietst dan denk je man man man ik ben in de maan.\u2019 Ja, denk je dat dan, Maarten? Het moet iets korts zijn, is anders zo lullig voor Herbert. Laatste grabbel. Het volgende is saillant. Het \u2018topoverleg\u2019 binnen team Deceuninck\u2013Quick-Step afgelopen zondag had fysieke consequenties, maar het team mocht in zijn offici\u00eble totaliteit de tour wel voortzetten. Hoe anders is het met Tony Martin van Jumbo-Visma en Luke Rowe van Ineos. Een niet opmerkenswaardig \u2018akkefietsje\u2019 tussen de twee leidde direct tot uitsluiting voor de rest van de tour richting Parijs. Wielerunie UCI vond dit opeens niet door de beugel kunnen, ook al stonden ze voorbij de meet het incident, waaraan ze geen woorden vuil hoefden te maken, handenschuddend de prullenbak in te lachen.
