Een ijzersterke en zeer betrokken vrouw met groot hart voor anderen,\u2026\u201d ja ja, ijzersterk zeker ja en zo betrokken ook. jammer toch dat de PVDA zo weinig in 2008 van die fijne eigen PVDAbetrokkenheid liet blijken toen ze mocht oprotten als minister.<br> \u00a0<br> en ook de woorden van PVDA partijvoorzitter Nelleke Vedelaar klinken zo enorm oprecht, zo betrokken ook: \u201cMet Ella verliezen we een geliefd partijgenote.\u201d<br> \u00a0<br> Op 13 november 2008 kondigde Vogelaar aan af te treden als minister voor Wonen, Wijken en Integratie, nadat de PvdA-top het vertrouwen in haar had opgezegd. In een persconferentie gaf Vogelaar te kennen zichzelf niet te herkennen in de kritiek.. Zij was van mening dat ze juist op de goede weg was en had graag nog door willen gaan als minister. Vogelaar verklaarde na haar aftreden dat de PvdA en met name de partijleiding debet was aan de vertrouwenscrisis rond haar persoon.
