Ineens hoorde ik het gegrom van een opgefokte V8 motor. Ik draaide me om en zag een dikke Mercedes SUV van de \u2018interventie-unit\u2019 van de ambulancedienst het parkeerterrein opdraaien. Er stapten twee ambulanciers uit en \u00e9\u00e9n persoon in burger. Ze gingen het gebouw in voor een bakje koffie. Twee parkeerplaatsen verderop stond een Volkswagenstation van de \u2018co\u00f6rdinatie-unit\u2019. Samen met mijn collega bewonderde ik de Mercedes. Ik merkte op, dat de Mercedes lichtmetalen AMG-velgen had, terwijl de Volkswagen gewone velgen met wieldoppen had.<br>&nbsp;<br>Op dat moment kwam er een ambulancier naar buiten. Ik complimenteerde hem met zijn AMG-velgen en zijn beestachtige wagen. Hij legde ons uit, dat dit voertuig dan ook heel hard het land door moest kunnen, om bijvoorbeeld iemand naar Groningen te brengen. Het ontging me een beetje, waarom dat met een personenauto zou moeten. En ook waarom dat van Rotterdam naar Groningen zou moeten. Ik wees de ambulancier erop, dat zijn collega\u2019s van de \u2018co\u00f6rdinatie-unit\u2019 over een enigszins bescheidener voertuig beschikten. Met enig bravoure gaf hij te kennen, dat dat ook een heel andere afdeling was. Vervolgens stapte hij in, startte en trapte de V8 op z\u2019n staart. Wij bleven in een stofwolk achter.<br>&nbsp;<br>Ik merkte op, dat de Volkswagen synoniem stond voor ons dienstonderdeel dat de stad schoonhoudt en de Mercedes voor die andere tak van ons bedrijf, die zich bezighoudt met de bouw van luchtkastelen. Mijn collega, zuchtte en vertelde, hoe het soms voorkwam, dat er dan bij hem in de polder een ongeluk gebeurde en de traumahelikopter onderweg was, maar voor ter plaatste te komen weer rechtsomkeer kon maken, omdat de normale ambulance de situatie al meester was. \u2018Het mag wat kosten, waar doen ze het toch allemaal van?\u2019, verzuchtte hij. Op dat moment moest ik even lachten.&nbsp; &nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>\u2018Stel je nou gewoon eens voor, dat het allemaal \u00e9\u00e9n grote grap is en dat het gewoon allemaal gratis is, maar wij hebben het gewoon niet door.\u2019 Mijn collega keek me aan met een blik, die ik maar al te goed ken. Maar onder de streep klopt het. Alles \u00eds gratis! Geld is niks.
