Mega winkel. HyperMarch\u00e9. Schapruimte zonder begin of eind. Twee voetbalvelden groot. Minstens. De winkel. Bij de verse vleeswaren moet je een nummertje trekken. Altijd. Zo druk is het er. Altijd. Daar. Bij de vleeswaar. Ik trek nummertje Dix-Huit. Uit zo\u00b4n ouderwetse dispenser zonder franje. Het ding spuugt een roze V-vormig papiertje uit zodra je aan haar tong trekt. 18? Dat is nog wel even wachten eer ik aan de beurt kom. Ondanks het feit dat de vier dames achter de langgerekte vitrine zich de poten uit het lijf rennen is er een flinke rij. Niet zo gek. Achter het glas heb ik ondertussen veel lekkers gespot. P\u00e2t\u00e9 aux pommes. P\u00e2t\u00e9 \u00e0 la mirabelle. Daar ga ik voor. En van die worstjes die op Poolse worst lijken, maar toch heel Frans smaken. Geduld is een schone zaak. Wachten geblazen.<br><br>Het schouwspel verbaast me. Lekkers? Ik zie de vier bikkelvrouwen achter de toog in no time een meter boterhamworst wegsnijden. Gemaakt van dat onbestemde lichtroze goedje dat zich in een dikke rode rol plastic heeft laten opsluiten. Belgische hesp op z\u00b4n Frans, ofwel saucisson de jambon. Met kilo\u00b4s tegelijk rolt het beide snijmachines uit. Om vervolgens zorgvuldig verpakt in de glimmende boodschappenwagens voor mij te verdwijnen. Klant na klant. Hesp na hesp. Bizar. Zoveel lekkers? En dan boterhamworst? Ieder zijn ding, maar ik kan het nauwelijks bevatten.<br><br>Een stem zingt mijn nummer. Dix-Huit. Une belle m\u00e9lodie. Pardon! Ik was even verdwaald. In mijn hoofd. Boterhamworst? Dikmaker! Meer meel dan vlees. Het is te zien. Slank lijkt hier een zeldzame ziekte. De vrouw voor mij ploegt zuchtend haar tot de nok afgeladen wagen zwetend naar de kassa. Mission accomplie. Ik ga voor dikke plakken. Tussen duim en wijsvinger gebarend waar het mes moet snijden. Beide p\u00e2t\u00e9s moeten eraan geloven. De worst laat ik links liggen. Pools of Frans?
