Daar aangekomen, nam ik dan de bus naar Schaarsbergen. Daar in het bos lag de psychiatrische instelling, waar mijn toenmalige vriendin haar opleiding deed. Ze woonde daar in een soort betonnen blokhut, samen met een andere verpleegster in opleiding. Als ik aankwam was ze aan het koken. Daar was ze niet goed in. Als ik geluk had compenseerde ze me na de maaltijd, met wat wel haar grootste talent was. Sowieso rookten we wiet, voordat ik terug over het beboste terrein naar de bushalte liep en de bus naar Arnhem weer pakte. Mij vermoeide ogen staarden dan in het donker naar de bomen, die er allemaal hetzelfde uit zagen.<br><br>Op Arnhem moest ik dan nog een half uurtje wachten op de trein terug naar Utrecht. Aan het busplein zat een tentje dat de TEJO Snacks heette. Daar ging ik dan naar binnen en kocht een hamburger met mayonaise voor twee gulden vijftig. De burger werd niet gegrilld, maar gefrituurd. Gezeten in het schrale, gele licht en het donker eiken interieur verorberde ik dan mijn burger. Na het eten eerder op de avond, was dat een traktatie. Iets om voor terug te komen. Dan pakte ik de trein weer naar Utrecht.<br><br>Vanaf Utrecht Centraal nam ik de trein naar Overvecht. Het was vaak tussen elf en twaalf. Op het station was het dan al rustig. De rit duurde vijf minuten. Uitstappen daar voelde altijd als thuiskomen, ook al logeerde ik slechts bij een vriend. Hij woonde in een kolos van een betonnen studentenflat, die we de bunker noemden, op de zestiende verdieping. Hij was altijd nog wel wakker en zat achter zijn computer. Als ik binnenkwam, praatten we wat en rolde hij nog een joint als ik geluk had. Ik keek dan nog even uit over de lichtjes van de stad. Na twaalven gingen we dan slapen. Ik in een slaapzak op de tapijttegels. Zonder matras, want daar werd je hard van. Dan was ik gelukkig. En voelde me veilig. De volgende dag stonden we dan weer op en gingen naar onze uitzichtloze stages. Maar dat was niet erg. Er was tijd genoeg en het werd altijd wel weer vrijdag.<br><br>Afgelopen maandag stapte ik uit op Arnhem Centraal.
